General Information

WHEN IS CUCOH?

Our three-day conference at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario will be held on January 19-21, 2024.

WHERE IS CUCOH?

Our conference will be held in-person and hosted at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

WHO CAN ATTEND CUCOH?

As the Canadian Undergraduate Conference on Healthcare, CUCOH is open to any undergraduate student interested in learning about Canadian healthcare, regardless of where you go to school. There is no preference for a particular school or program of study and delegate spots are allotted on a first come, first served basis.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR / BRING?

The dress code will be business casual for all delegates. External supplies are necessary for certain workshops; these will be provided to delegates registered in those workshops. A computer and reliable internet connection will be required for the duration of the virtual conference.

WHERE ARE THE VENUES?

CUCOH takes place at an array of exceptional venues in the Kingston and Queen's University area.

WILL MEALS BE PROVIDED?

We will be offering an array of meals throughout the event, including breakfast and lunch on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as a gala dinner on Saturday evening.

CAN I ARRIVE LATE / LEAVE EARLY?

While we encourage delegates to attend our full conference to maximize their experience, you are not required to attend the full conference if you have other commitments (i.e. exams, class, long distance travel).

Our team will be available throughout the conference to assist with any scheduling or accessibility concerns.

Our Conference

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY ENTAIL?

Our conference is based around a convergent and divergent schedule where our delegates come together as a group for events like our Keynotes, Socials and Meals, but also break up into smaller groups for experiences like our Workshop Rotations, Case Challenges and Research Competition. You can get a better idea of the general flow of our conference by visiting the Schedule page.

WHAT ARE KEYNOTES?

Throughout the conference weekend, we will have a panel discussion on our theme and three keynotes where our speakers will put forward big ideas, talk about their own experiences and offer advice on how students can make a mark on Canadian healthcare.

WHAT ARE BREAKOUT SESSIONS?

Our case challenges begin with a seminar period, to give our delegates a brief overview of a specific area in the healthcare field and help them understand the problem they will be tasked with solving before being split up into teams.

Our workshops are interactive activities that allow delegates to learn a new skill from experienced professionals in a low-pressure environment. Our workshops occur during our breakout sessions and are selected by our delegates when they register for our conference. You can view our offerings, and what they entail below:

WHAT IS THE RESEARCH COMPETITION?

Each year we take research presentations in the categories of Biomedical Sciences and Social Sciences to cover the breadth of knowledge contained within the field of healthcare. Our presenters will be competing for monetary prizes and award plaques.

WHAT DO THE SOCIALS ENTAIL?

Our socials are moments where you will be able to unwind with your peers and healthcare professionals after a long day of learning. Our events range from our more “social” Opening Night, Banquet, and Nightclub events to more “networking” type of activities with our Information Fair and Research Competition.

IS CUCOH SUSTAINABLE?

Yes, this year we hope to follow up on our success in promoting sustainability from our 2023 conference.

We are committed to waste reduction and diversion, cutting down on the paper products associated with our conference, and ensuring all waste is disposed of in the proper receptacles.

Registration

WHEN IS REGISTRATION?

Registration will begin in late fall. You can like our CUCOH Facebook Page or sign up for our CUCOH mailing list (at the bottom of each page) to get notified as soon as it begins.

WHAT DOES REGISTRATION ENTAIL?

On top of paying for a ticket to attend CUCOH, when you register for our conference you will be providing our team with:

  • Your personal email

  • School information

  • Address

  • Billing information

You will be able to make selections about:

  • Breakout Sessions (5 total)

WHY CAN'T I PICK WHATEVER I WANT?

In order to offer a multidisciplinary view of healthcare and ensure that whatever our delegates individually selected was representative of what could deliver, we had to enact some constraints for how we allocate experiences.

Without diving too deep into the details, our conference is limited by time-to-run, equipment, facilitators and room capacities so our new structure was built in tandem with our registration software around these constraints.

In doing so, we were able to create a new “Breakout Session” framework that should prevent against delegates having to decide between attending a topic of interest or a more hands-on workshop and from not knowing what they would be attending as was the case prior to 2017. The underlying framework that enables this is as follows:

HOW MUCH ARE CUCOH TICKETS?

The price of our conference depends on how much we raise through sponsorship and the cost of acquiring our speakers. We aim to provide the best conference experience possible while keeping CUCOH affordable.

CAN I PAY FOR JUST ONE DAY?

Unfortunately, this is something that we are not offering.

CAN I GET A REFUND?

Unfortunately, we cannot promise that refunds can be offered as the money from registration sales goes directly into conference planning immediately after.
